A Pilgrimage to Mont Saint-Michel
Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy, France. On a rocky island in northern France sits the church and abbey, that attract over 3 million visitors a year because of their unique beauty and historical significance.
In the sixth and seventh centuries the complex served as a center where Romano and British cultures met and evolved. It was then when the Mont was dedicated to St. Michel.

The church and abbey stand on a tidal island. A path to it is covered during low tide. The tides added a dramatic feeling to the medieval pilgrimages, as well as to the landscape.
